According to research performed by the International Association of Administrative Professionals late last year, marrying the cloud with BYOD makes sense in the current business landscape. The IAAP survey found that 75 percent of enterprises across the globe allow their staff members to utilize their personal mobile devices to help them do their jobs, reported the Safe Daily Advisor. Additionally, 71 percent said that the majority, if not all of their business tasks will be carried out through the cloud in the near future.
In this way, bringing all the advantages offered by the cloud and BYOD is not only understandable, but mutually beneficial for the entire organization.
Benefits of using the cloud with BYOD
In fact, there are certain perks that are unique to this arrangement. Many decision-makers who have not yet rolled out a company-wide BYOD initiative are hesitant to do so because of security concerns. However, Cloud Tweaks pointed out that when BYOD is combined with the cloud, these worries can be alleviated. Instead of storing sensitive information directly on the mobile device itself, users can access this content from the cloud. This way, if BYOD-supported hardware is lost or stolen, administrators need not fret over the potential security breach.
Additionally, the use of cloud computing in conjunction with BYOD can also save an enterprise a considerable amount of money. In itself, BYOD prevents business leaders from having to spend company capital to arm their workers with mobile devices. Additionally, Cloud Tweaks stated that cloud computing can lower infrastructure costs by as much as 23 percent.
“Both bring-your-own-device and cloud computing structures have the potential to save companies serious dollars,” Cloud Tweaks stated. “When both systems are employed, the savings to businesses are truly staggering.”
BYOD success depends on cloud performance
However, the success of a BYOD initiative hinges on how well the firm’s cloud performs. InfoWorld’s David Lunthicum noted that there are several ways to ensure exceptional cloud performance, including by improving network support.
“When relying on systems that are connected via the network, the network is everything,” Linthicum wrote. “Slow networks mean slow systems and poor performance.”
For this reason, decision-makers must ensure that their networks have adequate resources. This may require them to increase bandwidth which will improve cloud performance.
