Network administrators can incrementally add WAN links to address their growing bandwidth needs. PowerLink and ShieldLink allow IT personnel to easily add ISP links, and have them automatically load balance and failover traffic. The benefits of this capability are not only the ability to easily scale network bandwidth, but, they gain reliability through redundant WAN links that automatically failover in the event of an ISP outage, and the ability to leverage low-cost links, rather than buying expensive high-bandwidth links that may be more than they need.

Multiple WAN links also provide flexibility to have specific applications go over specific WAN links to optimize performance. For example, VoIP and email traffic can be dedicated to a T1 link, while web traffic is dedicated to the DSL link.
