Investment advisor gains continuous and reliable access to stock market data and investment funds even during an Internet outage.
Plymouth, MN – August 12, 2009 – Ecessa, a leader in affordable WAN link controllers for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs), today announced that Spectrum Financial selected Ecessa’s PowerLink WAN device for reliable Internet connectivity even during ISP outages. Spectrum now optimizes its two DSL circuits that support employee communications and financial data feeds with PowerLink’s automated redundancy and load balancing capabilities.
Spectrum’s daily business relies on the use of the Internet to deliver transactions, interact with other employees via Instant Messenger (IM) about trade signals, access data feeds such as Bloomberg and other real-time market data streams, and facilitate stock market trading. For the company, it was critical to eliminate downtime due to an Internet service provider outage, which would occur two to three times each year. If the Internet connection goes down during a critical time, the possibility for missing a market move could be very costly for the company.
“It quickly became clear to us that we needed a solution that would address the reliability issues of the DSL circuits,” states Elgin Green, IT Manager for Spectrum Financial. The main benefit we received from the PowerLink was its ability to automatically failover to the working DSL circuit when an outage occurs. This saves our IT department time and headaches.”
By implementing the PowerLink, Spectrum also receives improved performance when downloading large files. This is due to load balancing traffic among the two DSL circuits, and optimizing the total bandwidth of both connections. Spectrum’s incoming data is typical TCP traffic that can be very bursty, with PowerLink it evens out the network load among the two DSL circuits.
