Ecessa Selected by Bite Communications to Ensure WAN Reliability and Performance

Global PR agency deployed PowerLink products in their London and San Francisco offices to provide ISP redundancy and failover.

Plymouth, MN – April 7th, 2009 – Ecessa, a leader in affordable WAN link controllers for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SME), today announced that Bite Communications has deployed Ecessa’s PowerLink WAN link controllers to manage its growing WAN infrastructure demands.

Recognizing the need to ensure reliability and improve performance in supporting their internal business users, Bite Communications deployed a PowerLink 200 at their London offices, and a PowerLink 200 at their San Francisco offices. In doing so, they were able to gain WAN reliability and faster performance, while taking full advantage of lower bandwidth costs.

Bite Communications was looking for a solution that would provide them with seamless failover between ISPs in the event of an outage, and the ability to control bandwidth for different applications and user traffic.

“We evaluated Ecessa, FatPipe and XRoads Networks. We chose Ecessa’s PowerLink, not only because it met all the technology requirements that we had, but, price also came into the equation,” states Dan Chase, vice president of global IT at Bite Communications. “However, the key thing for me was their support. The fact that PowerLink becomes the authoritative DNS for our domain was a huge deal for us, and we really needed to know that there was a great support network there for us, especially while we learned how to use the product.”

“In fact, a big part of our decision to choose Ecessa was due to their support. Even at the evaluation stage, they were always available to answer our questions and put our minds at rest. Often this level of support has a habit of tailing off once the contract is signed, but that didn’t happen with Ecessa. Their support guys continued to hold our hands, and the actual implementation went seamlessly. They were also prepared to work off-hours, so our users didn’t have any interruptions. I would have to say that they are the best support team I have ever worked with in 16 years in the industry. It seemed their philosophy was to empower us by training us and making us feel comfortable with the product, which I thought was refreshing, and really set them apart from the competitors.”

“PowerLink provides a great deal of value to companies like Bite Communications,” states Ron Thomas, president and CEO of Ecessa. “In addition to providing WAN reliability through redundant WAN connections to protect against link failures, PowerLink can increase network performance by aggregating, and even bonding two or more WAN links, such as cable, DSL, wireless, satellite, T1, and other network links to increase bandwidth capacity.”

Bite Communications is safe in the knowledge that if their primary ISP has an outage, their users won’t even notice, because Powerlink will automatically and seamlessly direct users to the other ISP connections. Says Chase “This solution is a perfect fit for company’s our size due to the fact that bandwidth is so much cheaper these days. You don’t need to be tied to using just one service provider. So, why not take advantage of having two totally separate ISP’s by using PowerLink?”

Today, Bite Communications easily sends and receives different traffic types over separate WAN connections. For example, they replicate SharePoint data over their WAN, and they are able to dedicate the SharePoint traffic to go over the secondary ISP link. This allows the primary WAN link to be available for HTTP and email traffic, enabling their users to get fast Internet speeds for all their online social networking and Web 2.0 work.

Marketing agencies are finding great value in the ability to load balance and have failover for both incoming and outgoing WAN connections. For example, with inbound connections, when clients, analysts and remote employees working from home go to their site, and one of the service provider network links has an outage, PowerLink becomes the DNS authority, removing the address of the broken link so that the users go only to the working links. For outbound connections, when employees are doing research, or sending files to clients, PowerLink intelligently manages the network by conducting health checks on each WAN link to determine network availability and performance, and load balances each session across the links to deliver the optimal user experience.
